Dermapen pre/post care

Dermapen 
pre-care

Certain health conditions, medications, supplements, and lifestyle factors may affect a Dermapen procedure.

 

All customers are required to complete a consultation form prior to any treatment for assessment by a qualified Dermapen practitioner.

  • For tanned to dark complexions or skin prone to post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation you are required to use a melanin inhibiting skin regime for at least 2 weeks prior to a Dermapen treatment.

  • Discontinue use of products containing Vitamin A 24 hours prior to treatment.

  • Discontinue use of topical prescription Vitamin A 14 days prior to treatment.

  • Do not have any Anti-wrinkle injections in the treatment area for 2 weeks.

  • Do not have any Dermal Fillers injections in the treatment area for 4 weeks.

  • Males: Shave the area 24 hours prior to skin needling. Not doing so can prevent you from having treatment in the area.

Dermapen 
aftercare

  • During the skin healing process, minor itching, hives, flaking or redness may appear. If symptoms persist, please get in touch.

  • Do not pick, squeeze, or agitate skin during the recovery period.

  • Skin may feel dry and tight for 48-72 hours post treatment.

  • Swelling & Redness is common

  • Avoid make-up for 24 hours to avoid the risk of post treatment infection and follow the skincare regime as instructed by your therapist.

  • Cover Recover- a breathable SPF 30 medicated camouflage foundation must be used to aid in recovery.

  • We recommend to only use skincare exclusively designed for micro-needling procedures and we recommend DP Dermaceuticals.

  • Please avoid the following activities for up to 2 days:

  • Direct ultraviolet exposure

  • Intensive cardio, exercise, or gym regimens

  • Excessively hot showers, bathing, spa, or sauna

  • Spray or self-tanning

  • Swimming in chlorinated pools or the ocean

  • Tattooing including cosmetic tattooing

  • Further clinical treatments like microdermabrasion, laser, chemical peels, muscle relaxant injections and derma fillers should be avoided for up to two weeks.

  • Please avoid the use of skin care products containing any of the following active resurfacing ingredients for up to 5 days following a Dermapan TM clinical procedure.

  • Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and Beta hydroxy acid (BHA)

  • Benzoyl peroxide

  • Retinoids- tretinoin, retinol and retinaldehyde

  • Hydroquinone

  • High levels of Kojic or azelaic acid

  • Alcohol- isopropyl alcohol, de-natured alcohol/rubbing alcohol.

Dermapen 
contraindications

Dermapen treatments are not suitable for people experiencing the following conditions

  • Papulopustular rosacea,

  • Acne vulgaris stage III-IV

  • Herpes simplex

  • Warts

  • Scleroderma

  • Bacterial/fungal infections

  • Open lesions

  • Solar keratosis

  • Skin cancer

  • Hemophilia

Microdermabrasion pre/post care

Microdermabrasion

  • Let your therapist know of any changes in your medical history, medication, or supplements.

  • Do not have treatments that may irritate the skin for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment (waxing, depilatories creams)

  • Discontinue use of products containing Vitamin A 24 hours prior to treatment.

  • Discontinue use of topical prescription Vitamin A 14 days prior to treatment.

  • Do not have any Anti-wrinkle injections in the treatment area for 2 weeks.

  • Do not have any Dermal Fillers injections in the treatment area for 4 weeks.

  • Males: Shave the area 24 hours prior to skin needling. Not doing so can prevent you from having treatment in the area.

  • History of herpes or cold sores may require an anti-viral prescription prior to treatment.

Microdermabrasion
aftercare

  • Skin may feel dry and tight. Apply your post care products as recommended by therapist 

  • Do not pick or peel any dry/flaky skin

  • Avoid heat like hot tubs, saunas, etc for 24 hours

  • Do not exfoliate 5 days post treatment

  • Avoid skin irritants and actives, like (products containing tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents, etc) for 72 hours post-treatment

  • Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen of a minimum of SPF 30+ daily

  • For best results follow your home care regimen as instructed by your therapist.

Peels pre/post care

  • Peels: Skin must be prepared with the correct products as directed by your therapist.

Dermal Peel
aftercare

  • Skin may feel dry and tight. Apply your post care products as recommended by therapist 

  • Do not pick or peel any dry/flaky skin

  • Avoid for 24 hours exercise, yoga, saunas, spas and getting over heated

  • Do not exfoliate 5 days post treatment, avoid waxing/ hair removal for 14 days

  • Avoid skin irritants and actives, like (products containing tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents, etc) for 5 days post treatment

  • Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen of a minimum of SPF 30+ daily

  • For best results follow your home care regimen as instructed by your therapist.

Dermal Peel
contraindications

Dermal Peel treatments are not suitable for people experiencing the following conditions

  • Active cold sores

  • Open lesions

  • Infections

  • Uncontrolled diabetes

  • Lupus & Auto Immune Diseases

  • Retina A - cease two weeks prior to reduce excessive peeling

  • Roaccutane - 12 months.

  • Skin cancer in the treated area.

IPL pre/post care

IPL
pre-care

  • Shave or trim. Trim 1-2 days before your treatment - 2mm of visible hair is enough to treat. Shave the area before your treatment.

  • No wax. Do not pluck or wax between your laser hair removal treatments as this will disrupt the hair growth cycle and you may not receive the best results from your treatment.

  • Avoid direct sunlight. Remember to stay out of the sun and avoid tanning and fake tanning products at least 2 weeks before your treatment as it can impact the efficacy of your treatment and may mean you need to reschedule your treatment.

IPL
aftercare

  • Treated skin may be pink or red following your treatment-it may feel like mild sunburn or windburn, this is normal. The redness may last up to 24hours.

  • If required, you can apply a cold compress, cold gel pack, or a soothing gel until symptoms subside.

  • Treated areas may be temperatures sensitive. Cool showers or bath may offer relief.

  • Post treatment soothing gel can be used after treatment, products recommended  by your therapist only.

  • Always apply an SPF sunscreen daily best to use one that is separate from your moisturiser or makeup.

    Things to avoid after IPL hair removal treatments 
    Immediately after treatment, the treated area will be a bit more sensitive. We recommend avoiding the following:

  • Makeup, we recommend mineral makeup only

  • Perfumed and/or fragranced products

  • ​Deodorant and bleaching products

  • Swimming, hot tubs and excessive exercise until the pinkness of the skin is gone.

  • It's best to avoid all possible skin irritants or active products in the treated area for at least 2 weeks before your next appointment.

  • Keep the treated area clean and dry and avoid rubbing the treated area with exfoliating products, brushes, sponges, and face cloths until the treated skin has returned to normal.

  • Tight fitting clothing may also cause friction to the treated area.

  • Skip exercise until the day after your treatment. It is rare but possible that a graze, burn or blisters may appear following treatment. 

  • Avoid exposing the treated area to the sun, sunbeds or self-tanning treatments and protect treated skin with clothing and sunblock SPF 30+ between treatments.

Dermaplaning pre/post care

Dermaplane
pre-care

  • Avoid sun exposure a week before the treatment.

  • Stop using retinol at least five days before your treatment.

  • Hair removal, including electrolysis, waxing, depilatory creams, laser, or IPL, should be voided before the treatment.

  • Do not exfoliate or use irritating or drying products a week before the treatment.

  • If prone to folliculitis or hives can take anti-histamine the week before the treatment.

Dermaplane
aftercare

  • Avoid wearing make-up for the rest of the day, unless it is mineral make-up,

  • Do not start any new products with in 72 hours after the treatment

  • Avoid direct sunlight, exercise and hot environments such as saunas or steam rooms for the rest of the day

  • Keep the skin well hydrated afterwards.

  • Use products with vitamin C every morning to avoid any pigmentation formation

  • Include antioxidants in skincare regime.

  • Vitamin A can be introduced after 72 hours

  • Avoid any harsh products for the first 7 days after treatment.

  • Use anti-histamines or hydrocortisone when hives of folliculitis occur.
